    Strange forces at work in physics lessons!

    There’s always something a bit madcap going on in Mr Newcombe’s physics lessons and today our year 12 students were swinging around a bucket of water as they explored rotational forces. The challenge was to work out the centripetal acceleration which would equal free-fall to predict how slowly it could be done before the water fell out of the bucket.

    Last day at HSFC for year 13 students

    Today marked a major milestone for our year 13 students as they completed their last official day at Hucknall Sixth Form Centre prior to starting study leave for this summer's exams.

    Students were treated to a slice of leavers cake and a soft-drinks reception following a student-led informal awards ceremony at HSFC.

    We would like to take this opportunity to wish all students well with their exams. Focus on your revision, work hard and you'll get the results that you all definitely deserve!

    Year 13 British Biology Olympiad winners

    Year 13 biology students at Hucknall Sixth Form Centre recently took part in the Royal Society of Biology ‘British Biology Olympiad’. This prestigious and challenging competition is sat by students all over the world.

    Eight of our students were successful in obtaining commended and highly commended certificates. Two of our students also received either bronze or silver medals. The students have worked diligently throughout the course and these awards are a reflection of their passion for learning biology at

    Students extend their learning in London

    On Tuesday 18th April 2017, a large group of Hucknall Sixth Form Centre students from years 12 and 13 visited London for the day, engaging in a wide variety of different activities and experiences to broaden their learning in specific subject areas.

    The main group split into subject groups with our art and photography students visiting the Tate and going around interesting sites around London to photograph.

    Crime Scene Investigation - Hucknall branch..

    It was comparable to an episode of CSI Hucknall at the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre today as some of our year 13 students took part in a forensics day. The students worked on crime scenes and collected evidence as part of their BTEC coursework.

    Putting learning in context is a great way of ensuring that students understand the theory of what they are being taught. The students all really engaged with the subject matter and commented on how enjoyable the experience was.

    Uni masterclass for HSFC psychology students

    On Wednesday a large group of year 13 students from Hucknall Sixth Form Centre attended a Psychology masterclass on 'Brains and Minds' at the University of Nottingham.

    Students took part in mini lectures on schizophrenia and how children learn through imitation. They also visited a road safety driving simulator and attended workshops on current research into memory, perception and synaesthesia.

  • RTC Awareness Day

    Road safety awareness day held at HSFC

    Throughout the day today, a group of our students were involved in sessions led by the Nottinghamshire Fire Service on RTC Awareness.

    Held in the car park at the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre, students were shown the consequences of a road traffic collision and the role of the Fire Service in supporting those affected by an incident. This included members of the fire service rescuing someone (a dummy thankfully!) from a car.

    To support our students with their personal development, today we organised for a number of local businesses to visit the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre to hold a series of mock interviews. The interviews took place with students from year 13, and the experience should prove invaluable whether they are looking to move into higher education, employment or apprenticeships, as all of these pathways may require individuals to go through a formal process.

    Students sit the Senior Maths Challenge

    Late in 2016, thirty year 12 and 13 students sat the ‘senior maths challenge’. The challenge is a 90-minute test designed to test students’ logic and mathematical skill. It is a countrywide competition that allows students to compete nationally as well as at an academy level. The top 60% of students nationally receive a gold, silver or bronze certificate in the ratio 1:2:3.

    As we reach the end of the first term in our fantastic Hucknall Sixth Form Centre, year 13 students were treated to a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.

    Our year 12 students were on their study leave so unfortunately missed out on the sprout-fest that is Christmas dinner, but we would like to extend our best wishes to them too during this festive period.

    Younger Leadership College launch

    Last night saw the launch of the Younger Leadership College for the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. The aim of the college is to commission 1,000 younger leaders (ages 15-30) who are inspired and equipped to serve God’s purposes in the world, growing churches, shaping culture and transforming society.

    On Thursday 24th November 2016, the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre was officially opened by Mark Spencer, MP for Sherwood, and Richard Bullock, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

    At a ceremony attended by over 50 guests including district and county councillors, members of the Hucknall Partnership Group and local businesses, Mr Spencer and Mr Bullock unveiled a plaque in the new Learning Resource Centre to mark the special occasion.
