  • Effects of weed killer on plants

Practical tests for year 13 biology students

    6th February 2018

Students from our year 13 biology class were investigating the effect of weed killer on plants yesterday. They were learning how to identify problems in a practical method and solving this by changing the quantities used in the experiment (a problem solving theme). The weedkiller prevents the plant carrying out photosynthesis but they were researching how this works at a biochemical cellular level.

This experiment is one of the twelve required practical tasks that are examined in the final exams, so a key c

Strange forces at work in physics lessons!

    20th June 2017

There’s always something a bit madcap going on in Mr Newcombe’s physics lessons and today our year 12 students were swinging around a bucket of water as they explored rotational forces. The challenge was to work out the centripetal acceleration which would equal free-fall to predict how slowly it could be done before the water fell out of the bucket.

Unfortunately, due to a miscalculation, Jacky ended up getting a soaking (unfortunately not captured on video!) but science is all about experimentation we gues
